In the early 19th Century, slaves in Charleston, South Carolina began an uprising in a
fight for their liberty. Together, they planned one of the largest rebellions in
American history known as VESEY’S REBELLION. Yet, there was a traitor among
them.
Forced to run and take extraordinary action, one courageous woman among them
conjures the GULLAH GEECHE supernatural, sinister spirit of the BOO HAG to enact
vengeance upon the traitor and her people’s oppressors.
Throughout generations, the power of this HAANT spirit became myth –
Myth became legend, Legend became terror.
Now, as a successful Black New Yorker returns to the South to sell his family’s land
in a lucrative real estate deal, a rooted evil wakes seeking vengeance and retribution
once again for past sins against those who share the bonds of a deep family secret.
HAANT is the first feature to recount this southern legend...
A working-class family in coastal South Carolina is falsely accused of raping and murdering multiple white women over the course of two decades. As their son becomes the next target, what social, cultural, and institutional factors converged to create this over-the- top travesty, and what does this story tell us about the psychological tendencies of racism and dehumanization?
An old school feature-film documentary, in the vein of THE THIN BLUE LINE and PARADISE LOST.
